Hi there,
My name is Mark Goudsblom, and I am the founder and lead consultant at Circino Consulting. I am a Canadian originally from the Netherlands. I consider myself a continuous learner and am always curious about the world around me. My personal goal is to “have a meaningful impact on the world and contribute to a sustainable, healthy future for all”.
I completed my Nursing degree through the University of Victoria (BC) and a Master's in Health Studies and Leadership through Athabasca University (AB). After 10 years of senior clinical leadership experience in British Columbia's Healthcare sector, I transitioned to the Post-Secondary sector. During my time working in post-secondary education, I completed a Master of Arts in Global Leadership. I pursued additional learning opportunities and certifications in strategic planning, project management, construction procurement, construction law, facilities management, and sustainability management. I am also a certified Lean Green Belt and apply Lean principles and processes across project work and operational optimization. Furthermore, I use Design Thinking, Appreciative Inquiry (AI), and other creative methods to continually improve processes and find efficiencies.
My career has been a deliberate "full circle" evolution. I began in the high-stakes world of Healthcare, where I learned that the physical environment directly influences clinical outcomes and patient safety. I then transitioned to Post-Secondary Education, spending years analyzing how campus infrastructure influences the student experience, research output, and institutional pride. Most recently, I returned to healthcare to lead the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) through the complexities of deep decarbonization. By architecting strategies to reduce massive operational carbon footprints, I’ve proven that even the most complex organizations can align their physical operations with the demands of a Net-Zero future.
To remain at the vanguard of this field, I am currently pursuing a PhD in Sustainability Management at the University of Waterloo’s School of Environment, Enterprise and Development (SEED), where I am a researcher and publisher. My research focuses on the governance structures required for effective public-sector decision-making—ensuring that sustainability isn't just a policy, but a permanent part of organizational DNA.
